Choose the Record Holder

Minnesota release information is not held by one statewide counter. Contact the agency that created or maintains the specific record. MNDOC Records Management handles state sentence, current-status, release, expiration, and final-discharge data. A county sheriff handles that county's jail release or transfer fields under Minnesota Statutes section 13.82. The supervising agency maintains its public supervision data, while Minnesota Judicial Branch court administration supplies official or certified court copies.

  • For a county jail exit, use the County Directory and contact the sheriff or county data-practices office shown there.
  • For an MNDOC record, use the MNDOC Data Practices page. Records Management lists 651-361-7330, fax 612-473-5006, and CO-Records.DOC@state.mn.us.
  • For public parole or probation data, contact the district, agent, county corrections department, or probation office identified in the MNDOC result or court order.
  • For a court disposition or certified copy, use Minnesota Court Records Online and the Judicial Branch copy-request route.
  • For federal custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator. For immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator.
  • For an immediate emergency or urgent safety concern, call emergency services rather than sending a website message.

A focused Chapter 13 request should identify the person, the approximate period, and the existing data sought. Ask for inspection, copies, or both. Government offices need not create a new report to answer a broad question.
